HOW MANY KIDS ARE BEING HOSPITALIZED DUE TO COVID-19?

As of mid-August, a record number of children have been hospitalized for COVID-19:  nearly 2,000 across the country.  This is one impact of the delta variant of the virus.

In the age groups of 18-29, 30-39, and 40-49 a record number of people have also been hospitalized.   The corona virus is no longer a threat primarily to the elderly and vulnerable due to underlying health concerns. It is now wreaking havoc among the more general population, especially those who remain unvaccinated.

Substantiating the recent blog on returning to school safely, the National Education Association, which is the largest teachers’ union, recently endorsed a policy of mandated vaccines or regular COVID testing for teachers.  Many school boards have also begun to insist on mask mandates for teachers and students with the Los Angeles Unified School District being among the first to do so.  In some locations, like Florida and Texas, the school boards are defying state governments.

Record hospitalizations for COVID have been recorded in states like Arkansas, Louisiana, Florida, Mississippi, and Oregon.

As the CEO of the national Children’s Hospital Association, Mark Wietecha, said: “While kids have been more resistant, and that’s good news, they’re not immortal around this. We’ve had plenty of kids die, and we’ve had plenty of kids impacted.  And we just encourage parents to be as diligent as possible.”
